2019 Irish Weekend

After a few weeks of Ashley being abroad, we were finally able to get together for St. Patrick's Day!
We started our festivities by meeting at Hoosier Village for some breakfast with gran!

Ashley prepared a beautiful crustless quiche with corned beef, cabbage, onion and carrot!

It was absolutely perfect!
Emily accented it with some green fruit and of course there was Irish coffee!

Gran was so surprised to see us!
We had our green on and played some Irish tunes.

Then we watched the 1986 O'Neal Reunion tape with gran and shared laughs and tears.

Pretty soon it was time to pack it up and head downtown.
It was so cold this year that we forwent a lot of our normal activities.
Instead of attending the parade, we decided to check out the Hoosier Lottery tent party.
It was being held in a heated tent and Highland Reign was playing!

We had a chance to catch up with Robert and the gang.
It was a great set-up because parking was available 20 ft from the tent! LOL

After having a green beer at the tent, we made our way to our Airbnb rental.
The model apartment was furnished and equipped with a kitchen and washer/dryer.

It really had everything we needed and overlooked the walk route!
Perfect spot!

Ashley decorated the place with special Irish touches and we made ourselves at home.
We could not have been ANY closer to all the action!

We unpacked and poured ourselves some snakebites to talk about our plans for the evening.

We had a lot of catching up to do after weeks of being apart!
So much to cover - work, trips, kids, gran, feelings - everything!

We had to cut ourselves off from talking all night - get ready and walk over to Nine Irish Brothers for dinner.
It was a VERY chilly walk!

We arrived in time to get a perfect booth right next to the stage.
Ashley ordered Irish Nachos and Emily had the classic corned beef and cabbage.

We both had snakebites!

The band, Lachlan, was slated to play, but only one member showed up of the two.
Additionally, he seemed quite bitter of his stance in life and sang of Disney deaths and other morose topics.
He did, however, take requests - and we got to hear Galway Girl.

We met some interesting strangers and stayed a few pints past our initial instinct.
We finally headed out when the singer packed it in.

We got an Uber back to the apartment due to the increasingly cold weather.
Ashley made sure we had some rainbow goldfish and cucumber eye masks as we fell into bed.

Next morning, we were achy and cold!  A quick check of the weather revealed 20 degree temps and wind.
In light of the cold- we made the joint decision to have our Lucky Charms and coffee, take our time getting ready and enjoy the morning.
After leisurely packing it up, we checked out and stashed our bags in the car before checking out the tent party.

Highland Reign was playing their set and we made our way around the tent.
We found a perfect spot between the two main areas where the music was not so overpowering.
It was a great spot to take in the sights and sounds in our celtic scarves and shamrock crowns.

Afterwards, we made our way back to the nearby car and dropped Ashley at the college where she was parked.
It was a sad goodbye as time went by so fast this year.
We agreed to share photos of the rest of the weekend with one another to share in all the leprechaun antics.

We agreed that next year we need to participate in more events or the time just slips by too quickly.
The Greening, the parade, the walk....all missed this year.
But we did have the time with gran, the traditional food and the pub experience!
Not at all a failure, but room for change next year.

With the changing family and job dynamics, every year carries its unique challenges.
This year was a little scaled back due to weather, small kids and international travel, but it was worth every minute!

Shamrockin' good time!

Brunch Series at Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra

On a snowy Sunday, Ashley planned a fun Valentine's day for us!

The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra offered a new Brunch Series.

"New this Season- the ISO’s Brunch Series! Experience fantastic classical works during our new Sunday matinee concerts. Israeli violinist Pinchas Zukerman will perform and conduct Haydn's Violin Concerto No. 1 in addition to conducting Schubert's Symphony No. 5.

Upgrade your concert experience and add brunch! Enjoy a pre-concert meal including bottomless mimosas in the ISO’s Wood Room overlooking Monument Circle.Brunch is served from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 2:00 p.m"

We had the perfect view of Monument Circle from the Wood Room.

We ate family style with table pastries, sausages and bacon.
We each were served a plate of avocado toast and roasted potatoes as well.

Our favorite part was the bottomless mimosas - of course!

Gran was all smiles as she chatted with our table mates.  They each had a connection to Illinois so she was loving it!
Oddly enough - the men seated with us were also each twins.  It made for a lot of twins!

We snapped a picture by the majestic view before stocking up on coffee.

The concert was really good!  It was interesting to see a composer who also plays during the same concert.
The brunch definitely left something to be desired.  It was worth it to have the extra time together, but we probably wouldn't do it again.

We exchanged some small Valentines and love gifts.
Ashley had purchased a book of love quotes which Emily completed with photos of family.
We hoped it would be a loving reminder that although her husbands are gone, she has lots of love still left in her life!

LOVE was a main theme throughout the day.

We held hands through the performance and listened to the sounds of composers and days gone by.
Great twin day full of LOVE!

Traders Point Thursday

On this rainy, cold Thursday, we had a cozy evening in Traders Point.

We started at Qdoba.  Ashley's coupon book got us a free chips and queso side!

Then we made our way to the Salt Lounge.
We spent an hour basking in the salt air and sipping 7 Moons.
We talked about the definition of a mid-life crisis and how looking back on your life always makes more sense than living it.

Next we visited Starbucks for some tea and chatted until closing time.
We put together Gran's Valentines this week for her Hoosier Village friends and they turned out perfect!

It is so lovely to be able to do small things for her and her friends.
We love her so deeply and are looking forward to the weekend when we can take her out again!

Relaxing twin night!

Punch Burger and Every Brilliant Thing

On this chilly remembrance eve, we decided to take in a show and enjoy Devour Downtown.
After reviewing the Devour menus, we chose Punch Burger for our dinner spot.
We had never eaten there before and thought it would be a fun adventure for a good deal!
We were right!!

The burgers were amazing!  Ashley had a duck burger and Emily tried the classic Punch Burger.
We also had a basket of their waffle fries and two beers to round it out.

It was quite the steal at $25 for the meal!!
We couldn't have been happier with our choice!  We would DEFINITELY eat here again!

Next we were off to the IRT for Every Brilliant Thing by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe.

"What makes life worth living?  The answers are both simple and profound in this one-of-a-kind Off-Broadway hit.  A theatrical experience like none other, this witty new play shines compassionate light into the dark corners of the human condition." - IRT Website

It was playing on their smaller stage and this was a perfect setting for such a one-man show.
There was plenty of audience participation and a lovable leading man.

Cliche as it sounds, we laughed, we cried; and we enjoyed ourselves immensely!
As an anniversary of loss for us, this was a perfect way to spend time: reflecting on loss with laughter.

Wonderful twin night!

Caplinger's and MOPS Business Meeting at ARN

Ashley purchased the Discover Indy coupon book this year and we have decided to use it as much as we can!
So we opened the book to Zionsville restaurants and discovered Caplinger's.

This fresh fish restaurant has all the fixings and fish you can imagine.
Tucked quietly into a shopping center near I-465, we never would have found it without the motivation of the coupon book.
But, we are glad we did!

Ashley had the fried oysters with fries and sweet corn.
Emily tried the alligator tail meat with mac & cheese and fried okra.

Everything was really good and FRIED!  LOL!
We both broke any New Year's resolutions for this one, but it was a great way to enjoy some seafood.
We also noted this would be a good one to return to for Mardi Gras!

After dinner and conversation, Ashley joined Emily and the MOPS moms leadership for a meeting at ARN.
We heard from many moms who told stories of their joys and struggles.  We prayed.

It was a great night to spend amongst friends and try new things.
We learned more about ourselves, our friends, and our town.

Great twin night!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 at ISO

We attended the WORLD PREMIERE of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 with symphony accompaniment at ISO!

We first had dinner at Sahm's.
Ashley's new coupon book saved us some green as we prepared ourselves for the darkness of this film.

It almost feels like stepping inside Snape's classroom as you order a potion!

Also - what is more magical than free dessert?

After dinner, we played some HP trivial pursuit trivia to get pumped for our evening! (Great idea, Ashley!)

It was such an exciting night to be part of history!
The History of Magic will remember this day as the first time a live audience heard this soundtrack played alongside this film.

What an exhilarating experience!

The crowd was abuzz with the intensity of this film.

It was mostly adults as the film is very dark with many character deaths.

We enjoyed watching our fellow Hogwarts alumni in their varying levels of House pride!

We wore our wonderful witch hats along with our house colors.
It was a night of wine, witches and wit as we continued our streak with this ISO series.

Wonderful twin night!
